The Cultural Objects (Protection from Seizure) Bill is a bill that was introduced in the House of Commons on 18 June 2021.
A Legislative Consent Memorandum (LCM) for the Bill was lodged by the Scottish Government on 1 December 2021. You can find out more information about LCMs here.
The Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee is the lead committee in the Scottish Parliament that considered the LCM. The Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee also looked at the LCM and published its report on 24 January 2022.
The Bill itself amends a UK Act which makes provision for automatic protection from seizure or forfeiture of art objects brought into the UK on loan for temporary public exhibition in museums and galleries.
The Committee published its report on the LCM on 4 March 2022. You can read the report here.
