  • Motion reference: S6M-18942

That the Parliament congratulates the National Oceanography Centre, Dundee Heritage Trust and their partner organisations on the 100 Years of RRS Discovery exhibition at Discovery Point, Dundee; welcomes the opportunity that the exhibition provided to celebrate the historical, scientific and educational significance of the centenary of the original RRS Discovery through to the fourth vessel to bear the name; notes that the original ship, built in Dundee in 1901 for Captain Scott’s first Antarctic expedition, became Britain’s first Royal Research Ship, making it especially fitting that both the current ship and the centenary exhibition were marked in Dundee; recognises the continuing importance of oceanographic research to climate and biodiversity policy; acknowledges the role that such exhibitions play in raising public awareness and inspiring future generations of researchers, and wishes the present RRS Discovery continued success in advancing humanity’s understanding of the oceans.
