Scottish Retail Consortium's Planning for Nature – Nature Progress Report 2025

  • Submitted by: Maurice Golden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 30 September 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19127

That the Parliament commends the Scottish Retail Consortium and its sister, British Retail Consortium, on the launch of the Planning for Nature – Nature Progress Report 2025; understands that this follows their 2024 Plan for Nature, which sought to stimulate industry-wide action on nature and biodiversity loss, encourage standardised metrics, and improve supplier engagement in the context of emerging trends in consumer demand and international and domestic frameworks and reporting requirements; notes the results of the first annual nature maturity assessment, included in the report, which highlights that one third of retailers surveyed either have or are developing a strategy for nature and concomitant public commitments, and that one quarter of respondents are already engaging suppliers on nature; recognises the recent and ongoing support and advice for shopkeepers, including events and guidance to help accelerate progress, and commends this effort to encourage retailers to place nature-positive action at the heart of their business strategies and ultimately improve their longer-term commercial resilience and success.
