Offshore Energies UK’s Warning to the UK Government

  • Submitted by: Kevin Stewart, Aberdeen Central, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 October 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-19191

That the Parliament notes the reported comments from the chief executive of Offshore Energies UK (OEUK), that the UK Government’s Energy Profits Levy is not working, is driving companies away from the North Sea, is undermining investment and jobs and is raising less than one third of the tax revenue that was originally forecast; understands that, in the reported comments, the chief executive also called for updated licensing rules to give industries predictable access to domestic energy resources and to avoid dismantling existing energy infrastructure prematurely; echoes the call for the Energy Profits Levy to be replaced, and calls on the UK Government to listen to voices from the industry and change its approach to the North Sea to ensure that the skills and investment needed to deliver a just transition are not put at risk.
