Ongoing Solidarity with National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Members at STV

  • Submitted by: Maggie Chapman, North East Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 09 December 2025
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20063

That the Parliament recognises and values what it sees as the important role of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) trade union in supporting hardworking journalists, including those at STV whose jobs are reportedly at risk; understands that the union has described the planned STV job cuts as devastating, and that members have voted by 94% in favour of strike action; appreciates the organising and effort that the NUJ is making to protect news services in the north east; commends its ongoing commitment to protecting jobs and ensuring fair treatment for staff, and that it has passed two motions of no confidence in the senior management for its handling of the redundancies process; extends its solidarity with the workers, and sends its best wishes for their continued efforts in advocating for workers' rights and the future of localised journalism in the north east.
